Mapping Notes and Nodes: Exploring potential relationships in biographical data and cultural networks in the creative industry in Amsterdam and Rome in the Early Modern Period

Numerous databases provide information on persons and artifacts relevant for the history of the creative industry. This project tries to develop methods to analyse/ visualize potential meaningful relationships between artists and intellectuals by combining biographical data with relevant contextual information. A pilot study will bring together three complementary, but heterogeneous<br/>(meta)datasets: Biographical Reference Works(HI-KNAW), Ecartico (UvA) and Hadrianus (KNIR). Reusing completed databases and integration with ones in development is of great importance, but how can we assess which information is relevant to bring together? We will develop a viewer that visualizes the co-presence of historical actors (nodes in networks) /contextual information (notes in networks) of the creative industry in Amsterdam and Rome traced over certain time intervals. This allows for assessing the likelihood that one combination might lead to better results than another one before complete data-integration will take place. It supports prioritizing the research agenda for the history of the creative industry.
