Database of Dutch strikes, lock-outs and other forms of labour conflict 1372-2018

This dataset contains information on more than 15,000 labour conflicts in the Netherlands between 1372 and 2018. The data presented here is an extract from the more elaborate database that is still maintained and updated yearly by the International Institute of Social History.

The original data collection was carried out within the framework of the Global Hub Labour Conflicts (led by Sjaak van der Velden), financed by the International Institute of Social History. The dataset by Van der Velden was produced when he wrote his thesis in 2000, augmented later on and financed by himself. Because he used more sources the time series Van der Velden constructed goes further back in time than the CBS series and has more information on labour conflicts for many years.

Most information in the dataset is presented in Dutch and English, but the field in which the story of the conflict is told is in Dutch only.

Source data can be found here: Database of Dutch strikes, lock-outs, and other forms of labour conflict 1372-2018. The original database is in an Access file and can be provided on request.
