Amsterdam had two gun foundries. They supplied the city, the Admiralty and the VOC. The ship’s cannon cast by De Grave dates from 1725. The monogram of the Amsterdam branch of the VOC is on the two small bronze howitzers cast by Crans. The inscription reads in English: Cyprianus Crans of Amsterdam, son of Jan Crans, made me in 1743. The lightweight bronze ship’s cannon once stood on an East Indiaman. It is also inscribed with the monogram of the Amsterdam branch of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). Seest was a caster of guns and bells at one of Amsterdam’s two gun foundries.
