It was with this trowel that Anna Heineken laid the foundation stone of her son Gerard Heineken’s brewery in 1867. The wooden trowel box is a widened model of the factory. The dedication on the silver plaque refers to the rival gin distillery in Schiedam. That is harmful, but beer, Heineken maintains, is good for the nation’s health!
