These so-called chestnut vases are some of the most important and valuable objects from this period. Lidded vases like these were always produced in pairs. Glacé chestnuts, a delicacy served as dessert, were stored in them. This pair of vases has the circular shape characteristic of the Biedermeier style. Exceptional are the knobs on the lids in the form of squirrels.
