Van Mastenbroek is chiefly famous for his work showing impressions of Rotterdam port. In this rare work by him showing an Amsterdam cityscape he has recorded the view from Kraansluis, one of the city locks. In the background is the tower of Zuiderkerk and the houses on Kromme Waal Canal. Evidently, it was painted on the spot, as may be deduced from the edge of the canvas showing where it was attached. acquired 2003
