The coopers not only made barrels for wine, beer, butter, soap, tobacco and other products, they also occupied themselves with packaging the goods and with unloading barrels from the ships. Among the tasks of the winepourers was transferring fermented wine to fresh barrels. The 4 seated figures are headmen, who were responsible for managing the guild´s affairs. On the table before them stands an Amsterdam vat, and 2 Amsterdam measuring cups. Also in the picture are several instruments for measuring the content of the vats, as well as several coopers' tools. In the background the patron saint of this guild, St. Matthew, is shown holding a coopers´ knife.
