De werf van de Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie met het Oost-Indisch Zeemagazijn op het eiland Oostenburg

Bakhuizen incorporated all the principal tasks carried out at the VOC shipyard in this picture. A half-finished eastindiaman has just been launched onto the water. On the left is a VOC ship almost ready for its maiden voyage. Tsar Peter the Great of Russia came here in 1697 to learn the elements of shipbuilding. In the background stands the colossal 180-metre width of the maritime depot where supplies and produce were stored.
