Dam Square by Herman Gordijn is, so far, the final piece in the Amsterdam Historical Museum's collection of Views of the Dam. Topography is subordinate here to the artist's stories. He has turned Dam Square into a stage set for scenes of war and festivities. Dam Square is the top part of the central piece of a large triptych. This and eleven smaller paintings comprise the series 'Herman Gordijn's Amsterdam'.
