Voor anker liggende zeeschepen en lichters
The Zuyder Zee, today the IJsselmeer, was a very busy thoroughfare in the 17th and 18th centuries. The huge merchantmen set sail from Amsterdam and crossed the Zuyder Zee to the island of Texel. From there they set off for distant ports. This painting shows a merchantman armed with cannons and to its right a local cargo ship.
