The gates of the underground stations on the eastbound line are closed between 1 am and 5.30 am. Siet Zuyderland portrays the closed gate at Weesperplein station with great attention to detail, though he does omit anything he does not regard as important. The viewer is drawn into the painting by the orange square surrounded by a geometric frame with perspective lines. The gate, the handle and the rivets are almost tangible.
