De Zuiderkerkstoren gezien van de Houtgracht
The Zuiderkerk (South Church) was the first church to be built for Protestant services in Amsterdam. The city council decided to build it during the expansion of the city in the southeast at the end of the 16th century. The church was designed by Hendrick de Keyser, Hendrick Jacobsz Staets and Cornelis Danckerts and retains a traditional shape. Building began in 1603 and was completed in 1611. The tower was finished five years later.
