De Haringpakkerstoren gezien vanaf het IJ

Jan de Beijer is best known as a draughtsman of topographical subjects. Between 1751 and 1769 he drew many cityscapes of Amsterdam that were extremely popular with collectors. He produced very few paintings and these were generally based on his own drawings. Here we see the Haringpakkerstoren from the open water of the IJ. Further on up the Singel is the Round Lutheran Church. The tower that no longer had any defensive function was given a decorative spire in 1607. In 1829 it was demolished.
