Kelkglas VIVANT DE SEEPSIEDERS
The inscription VIVANT DE SEEPSIEDERS (Long live the soap-boilers) 1732 is engraved on the goblets. Soap was already an important industry in Amsterdam in the 16th century. One of the most famous soap woks in the 18th century, the Vergulde Hand, was owned by the Woltman family on Damrak in the centre of the city. The year 1732 was when Gerardus B.J. Woltman took over the business from his father.
