As more people took up a sport, there was a greater choice of sportswear for men and women. Many ordinary Amsterdammers could only dream of having a real pair of swimming trunks. They swam in all kinds of woollen or cotton home-made trunks. In many pools it was possible to rent swimming trunks for just a few cents.
