Standaard voor olifantstand
An astonishing gift. These elephant tusks were presented by Tjong A Fie, a Chinese magnate on Sumatra. The happy recipients are portrayed on the ivory: Jacob Cremer (1847-1923) and his wife Annie Hogan. Cremer, who made a fortune with his tobacco plantation on Sumatra manned by Chinese coolies, was minister of colonial affairs and then president of Nederlandsche Handel- Maatschappij. He appears on the tusk in ministerial uniform.
