Mercurius
The little boy represents the deity Mercury. In his left hand he holds a bag of money and at his feet is a rooster. Presumably he once held a staff in his right hand. Xavery also produced Abundance, the counterpart of this work. Marble statues of children representing deities and virtues were popular as ornaments for houses and gardens.
