Pictura is the personification of the Art of Painting. She is depicted on the door of a collector’s cabinet. In such cabinets collectors kept their art books containing drawings and prints. The way De Wit painted his subject produces the effect of a small statue in a niche. The artist often used this en grisaille technique in his interior decorations. Originally this door probably belongs to the cabinet shown in the painting by Tibout Regters, on view to the right.
