Twee sleutels van de stad Amsterdam
From 1810 to 1813, Holland came under the direct rule of the French Empire. Amsterdam was its third capital. These silver keys unlocked the city gate, at least symbolically. On his only visit to Amsterdam, in October 1811, Emperor Napoleon was presented with these keys on a red velvet cushion by the mayor.
