De Westerhal en de Westerkerk
The Westerkerk (West Church) was built between 1621 and 1631 after a design by Hendrick de Keyser. The original design of the tower was modified by Cornelis Danckerts and Hendricksz Pieter and construction was completed in 1638. In the foreground is the building known as the Westerhal on Keizersgracht. This was built in 1619, partly as a place for the Civic Guard to gather and partly as a meat hall. It was demolished in 1857 because of its dilapidated condition.
