Het fregat Pieter en Paul op het IJ

The warship Pieter en Paul, built for the Dutch East India Compagny, was completed in 1698. Tzar Peter the Great, who studied shipbuilding in the wharves of amsterdam, contributed to the construction of this ship. This ship´s portrait shows it in triplicate: one view of the stern, and a view of each side- port and starboard. The ship sailed out from the roadsteads off teh island of texel on 24 october 1698, on its journey to Batavia on the island of Java.
