On 14 July, thousands gathered in Geuzenveld to express their sympathy for Abdelhak Nouri. Their favourite young Ajax player had suffered major brain damage following a coronary arrest on the football field. All sorts of people turned up: Ajax fans, people from the neighbourhood, Ajax’s first team, even someone in a Feyenoord shirt. Driving through in his car, Appie’s father thanked those who had come for their support with his hand on his heart.
